Private Endoscopy & Bowel Screening

Private Colonoscopy

A colonoscopy is a specialised examination that allows an experienced consultant gastroenterologist to inspect the entire lining of your large bowel (colon) and rectum using an ultra-slim, high-definition flexible camera. It provides definitive diagnostic answers for symptoms such as rectal bleeding, altered bowel habits, chronic diarrhoea, and unexplained abdominal pain, as well as gold-standard bowel cancer screening and immediate polyp removal.

Patient Guidance

How to Prepare for Your Colonoscopy

Clear preparation ensures the doctor has an optimal view of your colon. Here is what to expect before, during, and after your exam.

You will follow a clear liquid diet the day before your procedure. Permitted fluids include plain water, black tea or coffee without milk, clear broth, and clear fruit cordials. You must strictly avoid any red or purple liquids, which can mimic blood in the colon. Do not consume any food or drinks after midnight prior to your exam.
Clinical Guidance

Understanding Your Results

Following your examination, your consultant gastroenterologist reviews your findings directly with you on the day. Results fall into two primary categories:

Negative Colonoscopy Result (Normal)

A colonoscopy is considered negative if the doctor finds no abnormalities or polyps in the colon lining. If you are at average risk of colon cancer, your consultant will typically recommend routine screening in 10 years.

Positive Colonoscopy Result (Polyps or Tissue Samples)

A colonoscopy is considered positive if the doctor finds and removes any polyps or abnormal tissue. Most polyps are benign, but some can be precancerous. Removed polyps are sent to the pathology laboratory for histological analysis to determine whether future surveillance is recommended in 1, 3, or 5 years.
